DRYSOL (ALUMINUM CHLORIDE) FOR HYPERHIDROSIS

  1. Apply Drysol directly from the applicator bottle, preferably at bedtime.
  2. Washing increases the water content of the skin, so should be avoided, prior to applying Drysol.
  3. The skin MUST be totally dry before application of Drysol.  You may want to try a blow dryer on the cool setting to the hands, feet or armpits to speed up the drying time.
  4. To be effective, Drysol must remain on the skin for 6-8 hours.  Wash it off the next morning, before the onset of daytime sweating.
  5. For use in the armpits, wait 24-48 hours after shaving, before applying Drysol.
  6. Apply nightly, or every other night, until the desired degree of dryness is obtained.  Then, taper use to a frequency that will maintain dryness.
  7. If the above measures do not relieve sweating, you may apply Drysol under occlusion, although this may increase the amount of irritation experienced.
  8. A.  For occlusion of the armpits, a rolled-up sock is placed over plastic wrap or Saran Wrap and held snuggly in place overnight by a T-shirt that is too small.
  9. B.   Nitrile gloves may be worn on the hands, and plastic sacks held in place by socks work well for occlusion of the feet.
  10. Approximately 50% of people experience some degree of irritation from Drysol.  If this happens to you, let your physician know, so that Hydrocortisone, a mild steroid, may be prescribed to relieve the symptoms.
