DRYSOL (ALUMINUM CHLORIDE) FOR HYPERHIDROSIS
- Apply Drysol directly from the applicator bottle, preferably at bedtime.
- Washing increases the water content of the skin, so should be avoided, prior to applying Drysol.
- The skin MUST be totally dry before application of Drysol. You may want to try a blow dryer on the cool setting to the hands, feet or armpits to speed up the drying time.
- To be effective, Drysol must remain on the skin for 6-8 hours. Wash it off the next morning, before the onset of daytime sweating.
- For use in the armpits, wait 24-48 hours after shaving, before applying Drysol.
- Apply nightly, or every other night, until the desired degree of dryness is obtained. Then, taper use to a frequency that will maintain dryness.
- If the above measures do not relieve sweating, you may apply Drysol
under occlusion, although this may increase the amount of irritation experienced.
- A. For occlusion of the armpits, a rolled-up sock is placed over plastic wrap or Saran Wrap and held snuggly in place overnight by a T-shirt that is too small.
- B. Nitrile gloves may be worn on the hands, and plastic sacks held in place by socks work well for occlusion of the feet.
- Approximately 50% of people experience some degree of irritation from Drysol. If this happens to you, let your physician know, so that Hydrocortisone, a mild steroid, may be prescribed to relieve the symptoms.
