Notalgia Paresthetica

Notalgia paresthetica is a relatively common condition that presents with itching.  Most commonly it occurs in the  upper back  between or  just below the shoulder blades. Notalgia paresthetica  is usually the result of irritation of the nerves in the back that lead to an itch sensation. The skin can change and become darker (more brown) and thicker due to chronic rubbing and scratching of the affected area. It can affect people of any age, any race, and either sex. However, it is thought to be most common in middle-aged to older adults.  It is also seen more frequently in women than men.

Skin Care:

Avoid scratching the area if possible. Apply ice or sarna anti-itch or CeraVe Anti-Itch cream to the area to decrease itching. Investigations for neck problems such as arthritis may be necessary in future.
